What's the deal with the bears?
- The facts:
- Researching the populations of the Eight Bear Types (External Link) gives us an estimate of about 1,169,000 bears worldwide. This puts them at a 35:1 disadvantage in population.
- Bears have the clear size and strength superiority
- The wide variety of bear species may allow them to specialize
- Bears can get as big as 8 feet long
- Some species of bear have enough biting force to theoretically crush a bowling ball or cast iron skillet
- The arguments we've heard (May not be 100% factually accurate):
- "Many of the penguin population are small penguins, so I don't worry about the number difference too much"
"Penguins can only reach ~2 inches with their feet, meanwhile bears are like 4 feet tall and pure muscle! Penguins also bleed easier, since their
cold climates lead to thinner blood"
- "I think bears for sure is the only logical answer. The only advantage the penguins have I believe would be sheer volume"
- "I work with bears every day. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that those little buggers are EXTREMELY clever. There’s a reason why bear-proof containers are so annoying. The overlap between the smartest bears and dumbest humans is sadly large. The penguins don’t stand a chance, even with particularly pointy sticks."
